Insaciability in the case or at the same time a miracle

“The specificity of this creation, premiering in May 2017 at “Festival Dias da Dança” / Teatro Municipal do Porto – RIVOLI, is displayed in each the components of its title. The first disjunct refers to the opening sentence of the Tractatus by Wittgenstein (“The world is everything that is the case”) and associates it with “insatiability”, referring to the desire for the totality at once of all that is the case, what is “outside the world” or “nonsense”. The second disjunct appeals to a quote from Jankelevitch that unifies mystery and miracle (what Wittgensttein would have called the “mystical”) under the noun “creation”: “Creation is the only mystery that is at once a miracle”. The disjunction between these two elements is the key to the methodology of the work, unfolding from it through its negation. The refusal to accept a disjunction between the impossibility of satisfaction and the appeal to the mysterious and / or miraculous. The performative work on the disjunction will have three main references or dramaturgical strategies to be explored in the creative work: the “Neither-Neither” of Austin Osman Spare, the semiotic square of Algernon Greimas, and the logical figure of Paradox. Each of the elements will then be treated term by term, with what each term associates denotative and connotatively, diachronic and synchronously: “Insatiability”, “Case”, “At the same time,” “Miracle”. Still in the original quotes, “World” “All” “Creation” “Mystery” The aesthetic and methodological option aims to be maximalist, focused on excess, in the overlapping of patterns, in the association of differing elements, in the nonsensical, the non discursive, the non explainable, the non demonstrable and non provable. In the labyrinth, voided of a geometric center and thought as a ground and point of detonation. In the play of mirrors and reflections without a defined image as being the original or the first. We will be using languages and processes of dance, gesture, movement, choreography, with those of theatricality, dramaturgy, text, character, with those of psychology, instinct, libido, unconscious, with those of philosophy, concept, argument, logic (s), system (s). The work with the performers will thus be guided by the intent of maximal expression using the maximal physical and mental resources. The relevance of the project for all those involved is in the artistic risk of the proposal, the degree of technical and artistic requirements that the work requires both at the theoretical and practical levels, and in the relationship to be established with the academic community and research. The project includes, beyond the performative object that sustains it, workshops for the professional community, ateliers and sharing moments with the wider community as well as a partnership with the Institute of Philosophy of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, University of Porto.

Crucial for a wider community is this articulation of the project with the Institute of Philosophy of the University of Porto, to be achieved by the realization of a three day international congress of rigorous academic research, held in Oporto, addressing the themes of the creation and from which a publication registering both the performative object as all the research derivated from it. Also relevant are the workshops and seminars sharing the creative process to be accomplished with the artistic community, professional or in the process of becoming professional (students of arts), which are intended to accompany the presentations.”

Joana von Mayer Trindade

Master (Solo/Dance/ Authorship) University for the Arts Berlin UDK/HZT 2013. Graduated in Psychology by FPCEUP. Founder with Hugo Calhim Cristovão of NuIsIs ZoBoP. Course of Contemporary Dance Performers (1999) by Forum Dança. She accomplished the course Essais CNDC d’ Angers/Emmanuelle Huynh (2006), with a scholarship by Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian. As a creator performer she worked in collaboration with artists such as: Antonio Carallo, Wil Swanson, Paulo Henrique, Olga Roriz, Filipe Viegas, Sónia Baptista, Min Tanaka, Deborah Hay, Ana Clara Guerra Marques, Emmanuelle Huynh, Eric Didry, Danya Hammoud, LIGNA (Ole Frahm e Torsten Michaelsen) and Isabelle Schad. She was a scholarship holder at the National Culture Centre in Japan (2002), where she researched and practiced Butoh with Min Tanaka at the Body Weather Farm, and Soto Zen Buddhism at the Zazen Dojo Antai-Ji. In 2008 she traveled during six months in India where she finished “Certificate Course in Yoga” in the Benares Hindu University in Varanasi and “Intensive Yoga Teachers Training Course” on Patanjali Yoga Foundation in Rishikesh. In 2012 she accompanied as an artist the development of the exhibition: “Moments. A History of Performance in 10 Acts” which lasted 8 weeks from March 8 to April 29, April 2012 at ZKM, Museum für Neue Kunst in Karlsruhe/Germany, in the context of this exhibition she published the following article: “Truthful Images” for the internet magazine CORPUS for dance, choreography and performance and a short film entitled: “Shaman Moments”. With direction and creation by Hugo Calhim Cristovão, she Creates and perform’s the pieces: She Will Not Live, VELEDA, ZOS (She Will Not Live) and Heaven is just a blue disguise of hell. She underlines the following pieces of her authorship: Between Being and Becoming for Edge Company (The Place London), Installation-Exhibition For All, and For None, M E N I N A S, SALTUS and NAMELESS NATURES. She is the author of the following written essays: “Just a Point. No More, No Less”, “Chaos as an Inevitable Tool for Composition”, “The Cruelty of Creation” and “TruthfulImages”. In 2015 she was invited to be associated artist of CIRCULAR- Festival de Artes Performativas.

Hugo Calhim Cristovão

Founder of the research group NuIsIs ZoBoP where he regulary directs continued research processes such as: Thanateros – Psychophysical Trainings and psicovocal active decontextualisation trainings for performers and Ex-Nihilo – strategies of free creation and systematic improvisation. With Nuisis Zobop he created, wrote and directed ABBADON for Paula Cepeda Rodrigues, SHE WILL NOT LIVE, VELEDA and ZOS (She Will Not Live) for Joana von Mayer Trindade, and “Heaven is just a blue disguise of hell”. Artistic coaching and dramaturgy for the pieces SALTUS, NAMELESS NATURES. Co- directed with Joana von Mayer Trindade MENINAS and BETWEEN BEING AND BECOMING. Tutored the M.A. thesis of Joana von Mayer (HZT Berlin) and of Paula Cepeda Rodrigues (U.Évora). Degree in Theatre Actors Direction, ESMAE-IPP. Degree in Philosophy (18) by the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the University of Oporto (FLUP); Post-graduation Diploma in Contemporary Philosophy (18) FLUP. Taught Expression Drama I and Expression Drama II in the secondary high school. Taught Body and Scenic Movement II and Improvisation II at the University of Évora. Highlights the professional experiences with Conceição Nunes, Polina Klimovitskaia, Rogério de Carvalho, Malcolm Morrison, Min Tanaka, Christinne de Villepoix, Laurie Booth, Thomas Richards, Andrezj Mayak, Andrezj Sadowsky, Zygmunt Molik, Elizabete Disdier, Alain Richardson, Krystian Lupa e Guennadi Bogdanov. At the moment he is still alive.
